The RITA System is almost always used in combination
with chemotherapy and is in no way considered a contraindication
to chemotherapy.
Controlling Liver Lesions
Consider these facts and ideas about using RFA to control liver
lesions:
- Because of the minimally invasive nature of the procedure
and minimal recovery period following the procedure, there is
little impact on the patient’s prescribed chemo regimen.
- RFA can be performed minimally invasively with little or no
morbidity, with patients returning home on the same or next
day.
- As many as 46% of all patients who die from colorectal cancer
die with liver only disease (Weiss et. al. – 1986).
- RFA eliminates all gross or visible disease in 88% (Siperstein
et. al. 2000) to 97.5% (Curley et. al. –2000) of patients
who are candidates for the procedure.
RFA has been performed in approximately 40,000 patients worldwide,
and has been the subject of more than 100 peer reviewed journal
articles.
